It helps to prepractice your pose a bit.

Anyone will do, but it seems the hairier the better.

Not the best alignment example
Be sure your hairy companion 'fits' your face. Placing an exposed critter nose where yours should be is only part of the alignment. The companions head or body needs to blend with yours to truly be successful.

Looking down into a camera helps
Note the correct nose placement and how the smaller cat fills the subjects lower face simply by positioning the camera below the subject.
