Re: Hurricane Michael raises the river waters acro
I lived on a canal adjoining Lake St. Clair in MI. Every decade the water would rise and there would be flooding, luckily I got only a couple of inches in my basement. But, it is very scary watching the water rise and come nearer your home. It happen to me again living in Algonac, water was over the curb and flowing under my home and truck. Stuck in the house for several days. We had five major storms in one day. Last one produced hail and damaged a lot of roofs. I was glad to move away from the water. Our home is on a hill now!!

My grandfather used to always say when you build a home make sure it's on top of rock or something. I also believe it's in the bible not to build a home on sand!!
I'm glad you are safe now but Vickie are you ok?

Vickie, U had to mention SAND, our whole property is sandy, I can walk in the woods after it rains for a day or two and not get my feet muddy. Water soaks in almost as rapidly as it pours down. People here cannot have ponds cause of sandy soil, unless they lined the pond. Centuries ago, they say the land around here was part of Lake Michigan. My Grandson lives near the ocean in S.C., I wish he would move while the value of his house is still good.

No sand here, I have the best black dirt, full of bait worms and grubs lol Everything grows so easily here.. but about 5 hours drive from here is the beach and all sand that I love to walk in but I guess it has its good and bad side. lol

Yes, everything has it's good and bad and one has to weighed one from the other. One thing about the sandy soil here, our water is 98 percent water, as the sandy soil is good for our wells. Tastes a 100 percent better then when I was living in Algonac, the water smelled just like chlorine. I bought bottle water for drinking. Hated buying the plastic that is ruining our ocean so I ended up buying an purifier for my faucet. We have multiple farms here in surrounding areas in MI with the soil you have down in VA, but our growing season keeps getting shorter and shorter.

You need to get some water Jugs and brink your water for drinking & cooking from your daughter's well. My grandson and his wife came here for a few yrs., til they got a new deeper well. When your daughter come to visit she could bring you water too.
