Re:
What is the significance of pumpkins to Halloween. We don’t have much Halloween in Australia. I understand it is about spirits traditionally and hence the witches and deathly theme.

Re:
Every October, carved pumpkins peer out from porches and doorsteps in the United States and other parts of the world.Gourd-like orange fruits inscribed with ghoulish faces and illuminated by candles are a sure sign of the Halloween season.
People also like to make delicious foods with the pumpkins!

Re:
I understand that. Just wondering why and why pumpkins. Was it a favourite vegetable of the pioneers of the USA perhaps.

Re: Halloween
Hi, Kookaburra,

I did read the link sent. That was interesting!

To answer your question more thoroughly, (but briefly, lol,) Halloween translates to 'All Hallow's Eve,' hallow meaning Holy, Nov. 1st being 'All Saints Day.' Halloween was started to 'get rid' of evil spirits the day before All Saints Day, and, unfortunately, (from my perspective,) it has been turned around by some to 'celebrate' evil spirits. I like the cute little costumes and all worn by children and even adults, but I do not like giving glory to evil. I would hope that most people celebrate the holiday out of fun, and not necessarily giving glory to evil, but I still don't like the fact that some use it in that way.... Wish we could all keep it fun, even remembering the reason it was started....

Hope that helps!

Re: Halloween and Pumpkins!
Thumbs up Thumbs up Thumbs up ...and then I remembered that your question was what do pumpkins have to do with it lol!

I think the link covered that wellSmiling

Still, I wanted to elaborate on the holiday being about spirits and so forth....

I'm still curious as to the gray coloring of the pumpkins in this pic, though!
