Forgotten and all but lost
This is one of the many cemeteries that we found geo-caching. If you did not live in that vicinity you would not even know it was there. I wrote to the State of Texas about this one. It was being vandalized and it was a big place. I do not know what became of that complaint as I moved away from that area.

Travel Bug
We found this some time ago but had not posted...in a lot of caches you can find travel bugs, items that travel around everywhere. This rabbit started in Germany, we found it in Texas and then took it to a cache in Oklahoma and dropped it off.

I loved these words
{ Image: i64.photobucket.com/albums/h175/mepattymac/e973cfba-0fb6-41f8-855d-dbd9c9dc4173.jpg }
"Do not stand at my grave and weep. I am not there. I do not sleep. I am thousand winds that blow. I am the diamond glints on snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain. I am the gentle Autumn's rain. When you awaken in the mornings hush. I am the swift uplifting rush. Of quite birds in circle flights. I am the soft star that shines at night. do not stand at my grave and cry. I am not there, I did not die" - Author Unknown

On My Way
On my out to the cache I passed a cemetery next to church way out in the rural area. I noticed there were NO trees except around the edges and a huge lot with few plots. I started not to stop but thought it might be a good place for a future cache hide. I noticed this chair out like in the middle, like someone sits there in front of this headstone with a flag, there is even a solar light to shine on the flag at night...It just gave me a sense of loneliness.

Family Cemetery
I found this family cemetery this past weekend when I was searching for a cache. The oldest is 1800's up to current, it also had a Texas Historical Marker..There were old up to the new and you will see the difference in the wording. The new one, well lets say it sure gave me pause that's for sure....wow lets just cut to the chase shall we....you will know which one I am talking about when you read them.

This one says:
Farewell my wife, my children all.
From you a father Christ has called
Weep not his parting, it is in vain
You n'er can call him to your sight again...

Must be Old
I do not know how old these are because the dates were worn and I could not make them out, but would assume they are quite old, you can tell that they have been repaired with new concrete between the stone slabs.

Sea Shells
We are quite a distance from the sea here in this part of Texas but someone worked so hard on this headstone...Am not sure if maybe it was just the seashells and then finally the headstone added and they merged it into one...its different

Old Horse and Buggy Bridge
This is not far from the house, no history on it, they found it when they widened the road and then someone put a geocache there. And to add, walked right thru a big mess of chiggers...those are insane to have...

He made me smile
When I first saw this headstone I had the biggest smile, the man in the picture had such an effect on me. I love his handle bar mustache, his pipe and the more I stood there the more I wished to have known him. To spend the afternoon listening to his stories would have been so wondrous but when I left there something told me we would meet again.

Glad I was there
I do not know how much longer this will be there, the years and weather have a way of turning areas back to nature. I dont know how long the little truck and marbles had been there but was glad I had the opportunity to visit and cherish the child laid to rest here.

Has weathered the storms
I had to stop and wonder here, this headstone is so stead fast, it says I belong here and I have stood thru rain, wind, snow and blizzards but I still stand protecting the place I was put. I thought about the person, the way things where in those times, their joys or saddness, I love this headstone.

A Little Town In Texas
I found this during a geocaching trip. You can see in one of the pictures where they have made the front of the building to look modern. When I walked around and saw the stairs I was just taken in by the intricate work of the iron that went into the stairs. It looks like according to the sign the last occupant at the top of the stars was the Constable. I dont know how much longer they will be there but what a find.

Below is a picture posted on our cache that we hide in a area not far from home, it was a old army ammo can so it can hold a lot of items, we put in a travel bug in there. A travel bug is anything you want to attach it to, you are given a id tag {looks like a army dog tag}, it is logged with its number and you can follow it from cache to cache. One of the men is holding ours...Its called June Bug, it a statue of Dale Earnhardt Jr, with the tag attached, right now he is still in Texas but he is 101 miles away for where he started. Someone has justed picked him up so I will let you know when he gets put into another cache and where it is. I sure thought I had taken a picture of him but cant find it, These three men found it first, its in one of the guys hands. They posted pictures with their entry.

This headstone is homemade by the family, unfortunately the knowledge as to lies here will not last. Always sad to see but all the effort and time committed to place the headstone you can feel the loss of the loved one.

Re: Homemade
Most unusual and touching. Thanks for sharing.
When my mother died in 2000, I read online that the tombstone should say something about the person, so that when strangers walk past it reveals something particular, other than that the person was loved or had a wife or kids, etc. Some of your pictures show exactly that!

Caches and Sites
I was in awe over this gravestone and decorations, you can tell over the years it has shifted but it is still so elegant and actually quite beauitful.

Insect Cache's
I thought these were very clever, the person that put them out was calling them his insect caches, each one was of a different insect. We were only able to snag one but it was so much fun. Hubby made the score as I was looking all over a tree when it was down below under a rock. I dont know where they found these, the log is hard to get out but that pales in comparison of the fun find and cache. We will try to find a few more of his when we visit that town again. Here is a picture of the cache from its under side...it is a scorpion. You can see the part that holds the log and pushes into the ground.
{ Image: i64.photobucket.com/albums/h175/mepattymac/geo2.jpg }
This is from the top. The way it was sitting on the ground under the rock, I was hesitate to touch it at first...lol

Happy New Year one and all!...It was a beautiful day for geocaching today, however, someone we all love and care about has put the gps down somewhere and we cant find it... and here after I bought myself a new pair of boots. Last week when we went out it had started to sleet and snow before we came home, found out real quick that my boots where not water proof,so thank goodness for that Christmas money I got this year, was put to good use. Here is a couple of headstones that I found in the past that I found really cool.
{ Image: i64.photobucket.com/albums/h175/mepattymac/Image002.jpg }|{ Image: i64.photobucket.com/albums/h175/mepattymac/PB270949.jpg }
The first one is homemade, looks like maybe pine wood, with etching and horseshoes, but the bottom which is hard to read in the picture says " I always knew this would happen some day". The other one was in a cemetery that is no longer used and unfortunately those will soon be gone as the tombstones fall over, break or get vandalized when they are not cared for. "She was too good, Too gentle and fair to dwell in this cold world of care".

Tombstone on the Left
Looks like cedar to me. Kinda cool, since most are made out of stone.

I have never done a blog before but hey, thought I would do one on my geocaching. I would like to reflect back on what I have seen and found myself and this way I can also share with anyone that may have the same interest. I will start back a few days ago, we have been geocaching for many years now so it would be to hard to go very far back. We find caches as well as hide them, both are fun and you never know where the road, trail, path, etc. will take you. All of the caches are hidden on public land, cemeteries, parks, etc., never on private property unless it belongs to the geocacher and they want it there. Cemeteries are always my longest treks as I find them interesting, I look at the dates, the names, some are so different and of course the inscriptions on some are heart warming and some are a puzzle as to why it was chosen. Here is the one we found a few days back...This gentleman decided he wanted to be buried in style so he planned it all well in advance. His vault is in the next town over from mine, out all by itself, enclosed with a rod iron fence. Here is the pictures and his story, which was researched by the geocacher who hid the cache.

Here's a little about Isham Beasley and his nifty vault:
In 1894 he had a vault erected for his burial at a cost of $5,000.00 and he left the Dodd City Masonic Lodge a grant of $1,000.00 for its care. On February 22, 1903, this generous old gentleman with his long white beard was called Home. There was a cold north wind blowing and it had been raining for days when he died. John Gray, an intimate friend of Mr.Beazley, was called upon to bring his friend's body to the Christian Church where the funeral was to be conducted. Mr.Gray hitched eight mules to a wagon and went to Lannius where the coffin was placed on the wagon and brought over the roads that were almost impassable tot he church in Dodd City, where the eulogy was read by the Elder F.L. Young. When the eulogy had been read, the body was taken to Uncle Isham's tomb. His body was laid on the south side of the vault: his hat and cane were placed along the north wall of the tomb, and his rocking chair was placed next to his coffin. The thick marble doors were closed. The end had come for a man who possessed faith, Love and Charity.
As you can tell, it is not being taken care of these days, the sidewalk is like a wash board, the iron fence is leaning and the vault is crumbling some. It is marble so perhaps it will be there years after I am gone. Hopefully it will not get vandalized..
