In the tournament https://www.goldtoken.com/games/tournaments?st=182125 Why does Acedog who was =16th / 29 players get a token ?, If it is because he got a bye in the last round then the coding needs to be changed.

I don't care what you think I don't know you & I have never seen you even play Rummikub so why are you even getting involved in this discussion? You talk of positives & negatives but you are the type of person it seems to me that could have an argument with yourself in a telephone box.

That is reading a lot into a few words. I reread that post but don't see what you're saying and think you're making a big deal out of a molehill. Zig Ziglar once said that positive thinking will let you do everything better than negative thinking will.

They basically called me thick in the meantime whilst doing so suggesting that the reason for wanting a new variant is that I am not capable of hoarding the tiles & playing that way if you don't understand that this is unacceptable then I feel sorry for you

An option would be to limit how many tiles you can place in a single turn, not counting and taken from the board that must be replaced.
There wouldn't be any point hoarding tiles if you couldn't place them all in one turn

Thank you for speaking up about it I have spoken with a number of people who agree but not all will speak up about it the point of me doing this is not to change the game itself but to get a new variant that will allow players like you & I to be able to play & enjoy it. not looking good at the moment it has to be said as they would rather criticise than help.

You still don't get the point... I am asking for a NEW variant so that people who actually want to play can! Then those who want to bore people to death can bore one another til their hearts content. I am well aware of the rules & as I not stupid I understand them a pity they are ruining what could be a very good game in my opinion & yes I am entitled to my opinion!

Unfortunately that's the rules of the game and a legitimate tactic.

Really? they are basically saying that we can't compete with players who hold the tiles back! You can't get anymore offensive than that! It isn't that we can't it is that we don't want to... just pressing the draw a tile button over & over again is boring all I am asking for is a variant where people want to play they can. Actually gon rummy is more akin to American rummikub. All card based variants of rummy have a discard pile.
Rummikub at GT is almost identical to the commercially available game, with the exception of in that the initial meld can't be accompanied by other melds or altering melds already laid in 5hat turn. Perhaps that rule may help?

The French rummikub variant sounds interesting

Just like you noted Whafflet, although annoying, how the game plays is how the very specific game rules are set up. It wouldn't be right if we changed the queen to move like a king in chess just because some people don't like how other people win with it. Rummikub is very much like gin rummy. It is an annoying part of the game for some people. We do offer several variants of the game, and may consider another. But we aren't going to make the game easy because someone can't play it against other players strategies.

I will only go to 40 tiles with them & when they get to that I resign! The most I have ever had before being able to go is 35... Everyone is entitled to their opinion but in my mind they are not playing the game if they just keep drawing tiles & it is extremely boring to play against I thought the games were supposed to be fun?
(#5690561) Re: New rummikub variant
Posted by Whafflet on 2 Jun 2025 at 5:48AM
Not if none have been put down by your opponent at all by the end of 0 tiles and yes I agree I've had a couple where it's got up to 32 before I could meld which is why I wait until 33. There has to be a cut off point where you have to change tactics though, for those who don't just incase, cos if you don't and they put down 3 and then 1 at a time, they've automatically won by default simply because you've already put down 9 or so tiles before you realize they're playing a different tactic to you.
(#5690560) Re: New rummikub variant
Posted by Jools on 2 Jun 2025 at 5:42AM
I've had games where I've got to well over 30 tiles but still unable to meld, it's not a tactic just bad luck.
I personally don't think a variant where you are forced to place tiles would be a good thing, but I'm willing to try it out.

Posted by Whafflet on 2 Jun 2025 at 4:59AM
A discarded tile although annoying is part of the game, however, no other game has such a difference in game play. Not all players play the same style over and over, however if by 33 tiles none are put down, I start to change my style to suit theirs, but by the time that has happened some tiles are already put down by myself, which tends to give the opponent a slight advantage against if the tiles they need are already there in place.
(#5690542) Re: New rummikub variant
Posted by Jools on 2 Jun 2025 at 4:32AM
Simple solution, if you don't like how some people play - don't play against them!
I don't see the issue with players gathering tiles, they risk lots of penalty points if they lose the round.
A more annoying feature of the game is seeing the tile you need on the discard pile but not being able to collect it.

hi, I don't know if your proposal is the right one to "fix" the problem, but I agree that there are effectively two ways of playing the game today. And that is frustrating for a number of reasons. I think the issue with your proposal is how to make it a system requirement that you play your tiles - what if you can't make a move? and while I don't like the tactic of waiting till all tiles are drawn before you play any, I do sometimes like to draw tiles because I might be able to make a better move next time (place 4 tiles instead of 1, say). But interested in the conversation and yes a new variant might solve the problem.
(#5690535) Re: New rummikub variant
Posted by Whafflet on 2 Jun 2025 at 3:30AM
A variant where you have to play the tiles you are holding, I think is a great idea. That way players who want to play tile by tile and those who rather keep their tiles until end would have a choice. Plus it would help stop a lot of the games winning by default simply on the style in which they play.

Posted by shillotte on 2 Jun 2025 at 3:02AM
I wonder if this is the right discussion board for this but would it be possible to have a variant of Rummikub where you have to play your tiles? I am bored of those players who just continually draw tiles without playing and I know there are others who feel the same. I love the game but in my opinion it is being ruined by this tactic. What I was thinking was that if a player keeps a tile without playing deliberately or accidentally then the opponent gets 10 points on his score. I would like other peoples opinion on this & obviously would like to know if it is possible to do. I have also posted this on the platinum members board

On your game sheet in your options box, click the Manage my banners link. You have two banners listed there, it's the first one that's about to expire. Click the link that says "extend the duration of this banner". I think that is what you're asking for. Tomas is going to add a link to the banner notification letter that goes directly to your manage banners page to help with this issue.

All the other places to put your pieces have these little circles.
Is this normal in Nine Men Morris Rules or is it something that should be corrected by the graphics team?

Whether the scoring for the tournament is correct or not, surely the penalty points should be reflected in the final score? Or made visible in some other way? That would at least make the tournament scoring more understandable. Just a suggestion as from the posts I must admit it does not seem easy to understand.

It's in the rules
Winning the Game
To win the game, a player needs to place all tiles in the hand to the board. As soon as someone manages to do this, the game is over and this player is a winner. Placement of the remaining players is decided by the value of tiles left in their hands - each numbered card incurs as many penalty points as its number is, while Jokers incur 30 penalty points
So I guess you had more penalty points and came last, as Mecir pointed out in bug reports

I see nothing about "penalty points" anywhere in Rummikub. The final score of the game in question being stinky malinky 620,me 434,NEUROTIKA 0 makes it hard to imagine any such points possibly making a difference

Did you finish 2nd in both though? As the final scores don't show the penalty points it's hard to tell

Yes,you replied to me there-you failed to recognize that I finished 2nd in both games-the scoring should be 3-3-2 rather than 4-3-1

I just noticed the scoring in this tournament and I'm wondering if there is a problem with it.

I would ask for an update on bug reports, that's the only place you'll get an answer if it's an error

The answer I was given was factually incorrect. I'm still waiting to hear a reasonable explanation why 0 beat 434

I'm sorry about your cancer, but they caught it early, I'm do happy to hear that. So glad you have someone helping you. You've been a really good friend for a very long time. You have so many true friends here,(ME) that will be by your side. You left once and I missed you. Then you came back. Don't let this person do that. Don't let them win! If you do, who knows what else they will do. GoldToken is better than that. Don't leave GoldToken again, use the Ignor List, and play your Real Friends! You're in our thoughts and prayers.

Posted 2 different places on this & have yet to receive a relevant response: "I'm a bit confused about the scoring of game #14445187. Stinky Malinky won & of course received 3 points. I finished with 434,and Neurotika finished with 0,yet she received 1 point and I got a zero. Just can't see how that could be -has to be a bug, right? 434 IS higher than 0 I believe" The result is that tho I have finished 2nd in both games I only have 1 point-only matters if I win the 3rd game,as an outright win would turn into an undeserved share with the player who received "my" point
