What is Thank Goodness Day that you refer to? I cannot find anything about it on Google, despite trying several different variations of search terms.
As for July 4th, it's one of a number of national days that GT celebrates. For instance, today is the one in Belgium. I see nothing wrong with celebrating any country's national day. It's a little different when celebrating a day about bigotry.
