My guess, that squirrel was a pet at one time, use to be taken care of and fed. Use to jumping on its human...... now its lost, scared and hungry. (sadly you raise a wild animal then turn it loose w/o training it, it doesn't know how to hunt for itself).
(I bet the pet owners on here can tell "all kinds" of stories of when they don't feed cats or dogs on time)
