@fatdaddy, I used to only grind my own London Broils to make hamburgers or any other need for Chop meat.. I still don't like to purchase ground beef from any market or anything.. I used to have the Tupperware hamburger makers and used to freeze the burgers because my girls loved my home ground burgers..

Now that I would consider. I've also wondered if one could grind meats successfully at home.

I tend to make my own out of mince (ground beef if you are from over the pond) from the butchers now and again, but I probably do this maybe 10 times a year. Maccy D is a total last resort, only to be entered if starving and no other food in miles - I worked there 20 years ago and it was horrible then 😂 you can tell the quality has gone down further since.

I don't care for McDonald's, but there is a place around the corner that does big half pound organic beef burgers and they are D Lish with bacon, grilled onions and avocado, a couple kinds of cheeses, tomato and crunchy lettuce.

Yes it appears that the British "Smarties" name was used 12 years before the American one. The Smarties candies were created at least 55 years before that.

Not quite.
Orange Smarties originally contained orange-flavoured chocolate, however, these days the orange flavour is added to the shell only.

Scarcely ever having been part of a "couple", I voted for money. It seems others agree. Money is a proxy for power, and as individual creatures we necessarily want our own way and regard others as agents or potential agents of our pleasure or displeasure.
I see "coupledom" as a contrived arrangement where "the tug of war" is greater or lesser.
Women want more money and men want more women. What could possibly go wrong in the world

(#5673320) Lent..
Posted by Ziggy Zugzwang on 10 Mar 2025 at 10:13AM
Lent has its origins in pagan religion. Notwithstanding, there are other observances like Ramadan that also seeks to subsume what practices came before... (The early Church having seen that couldn't eliminate some level of fasting decided that if you can't beat them then join them...)
The forgoing of luxury - usually food - as in Shrove Tuesday when all the nice stuff was eaten up to inaugurate a period of "going without"...
My point is this: winter going into spring is the natural time for eating less. In very recent years I've taken to narrowing my eating window in order to lose a little flab.
Mythology is a useful medium for passing on useful information to those who come after and live a faith based life — most people — rather than a life based on knowledge.

They are still there also! And I have one more that is not a poison! His name is Mighty Mouse! I have a beautiful clear plastic confining home! It is 8 inches long and not like the old ones of 10 yrs. ago! (4 inches). It also has a lever that has 2 sides to it so peanut butter is eaten 100% of the time and Mighty mouse does not get his tail caught! So? I entertain him for a day or two with cheese and other condiments! (Which can be dropped thru a small slit in the top of the "toy!") He loves me! So, no more Victors or snap traps! So? what next? In a few days I walk him down the railroad track about a quarter of a mile! Sometimes he still cuddles around me! Then I let him take off over the grass to a brand-new life!

We joined the Navy to see the world
And what did we see? We saw the sea
We saw the Pacific and the Atlantic
But the Atlantic isn't romantic
And the Pacific isn't what it's cracked up to be
We joined the Navy to do or die
But we didn't do and we didn't die
We were much too busy looking at the ocean and the sky

I mis-spoke slightly. NO2 and NO seem to be worse by-products of gas stoves than CO.
(#5647026) Re: Cooking
Posted by Jools on 21 Nov 2024 at 1:22PM
Though research has found that the presence of gas stoves in the home is one source of elevated risk of CO poisoning, that generally only happens when something goes wrong: a gas stove with a pilot light, a poorly ventilated space, a burner left on, something like that. Among average people, symptoms start at around 70 parts per million (ppm).
However, research shows that low-level CO exposure can exacerbate cardiovascular illness among people with coronary heart disease and other vulnerable populations. California’s ambient air quality standards cap CO exposure at 20 ppm over a one-hour period or 9 ppm over an eight-hour period.
“In homes without gas stoves, average CO levels are between 0.5 and 5 ppm,” the report says. “Homes with gas stoves that are properly adjusted are often between 5 and 15 ppm, whereas levels near poorly adjusted stoves can be twice as high: 30 ppm or higher.” Poorly adjusted stoves — incompletely burning fuel, inadequately ventilated — may yield ongoing, low-level CO exposure, putting the vulnerable at greater risk.
As I said, something must be wrong to produce CO

Salmonella, Campylobacter and other harmful bacteria live on raw chicken. Washing or rinsing doesn't remove this risk, it worsens it by helping the bacteria spread. When you add water through washing or rinsing, you give these bacteria a way to travel throughout your kitchen.

When I buy a whole chicken I remove the kidneys and anything else left by the inferior butchering method used. I rinse it in running cold water then fill the sink with cold water & salt and clean it out well. It is now ready to roast and maybe stuff.
I frequently buy 10 pound bags of leg quarters as they're so cheap ($6 - $7 U.S. per bag) . If there is any backbone remaining on a quarter that gets removed along with the kidneys. I then wrap and freeze them individually. A leg quarter usually gets slow cooked in a pan for 2 - 3 hours with herbs & seasonings and maybe onion and / or garlic. After it cools I de-bone the quarter and the meat then goes into a recipe or on the dinner plate.

Basic chicken preparation. Total time: 5 - 10 minutes.
Go down the stairs
Turn right, then left.
Check if rotisserie has moved. Hasn't. Why should it?
Point to the bird with the deepest sun tan.
Pay, return home.
Note: Mrs Rabbit has far better recipes, but you asked for basic.

I selected baked because:
1) an oven is usually easily/readily available
2) can give you a lot of different options (whole or pieces of chicken; can use different spices or sauces)
3) with maybe some exceptions of having to turn the chicken half way through cooking, most of the time you can "set it and forget it" (while you prepare your side dishes, etc )
4) you can add veggies (potatoes, carrots, etc ) to your dish and cook everything in one pan
