The Go game and its variants now support handicap stones. These allow the Black player to obtain a chosen amount of free extra stones to place on the board when the game starts, to make up for a difference in Go experience between the players.

Handicap stones are only available in friendly games, and it is recommended to play such games as unrated, as handicap stones are intended as a teaching tool.
