What is a GoldToken Club?A Club is much like what you would think. It’s a group of like-minded players who enjoy having a place to call a “home.”It can be a gathering of players who enjoy socializing with a specific subject for conversations ranging from astronomy to ecology to philosophy to prime time tv to religion. It can also be a group of people who like to play a lot of specific types of games and their variants, such as the well known Backgammon, Chess, Dominoes, Card and Tile games, and board-styled word games (known here as CrossDowns and Grabble) and many of the lesser known ones as well. Most Clubs play a variety of games that are for their members to play each other. They have Club Games which are “sub-clubs” allowing you to play members who like specific games as much as you do. They also have Club Ladders, where you try to work your way to the top of a specific game to claim yourself as the best in that game (at least until you’re beaten). Ladders have the effect of ultimately pitting you against players at your level. And then there is something called a Wiki-Tournament. Many, many clubs run these. They usually consist of a single game-type where members sign up play against other players in a tournament styled match-up. It could start with 16 players and work its way down to 8, 4, and then the last 2 standing play each other. It’s a fun way to pit yourself against other members of the club and you often find yourself playing the same people over time. Sometimes they are themed, and sometimes complex, but most often they are simply one game competitions. Occasionally there are prizes, but those are at the owner’s or president’s personal expense, so, not-so-much. If you are in a club, or join one, and a Wiki-Tournament sounds interesting, you have but to go to the wiki (the custom-made sign-up sheet) and edit it to sign in. OOPS! Say WHAT?!? I don’t know anything about editing a wiki! Isn’t that like, in code, or something??? Well, no. It’s very learnable and in plain English. BUT on the wiki you will see the name of the person who is running the wiki. If you see a tourney you’d like to join, all you have to do is send a message to that person and ask them to sign you up. You can even ask them to make you the invitee if you’re not certain how to send an invitation and even enter your game number (you’ll have to tell them that, of course.) If you are not yet in a club, take a look at the top of your game sheet and click on the Clubs tab and you can get an idea of what kind of clubs are on the site. Or you can go to the Club Members & Matches Discussion Board page to see clubs that are promoting themselves. You could also ask someone that you’re already playing with for recommendations. I’m in a bunch of clubs but really only active in a few and to mention those would be showing my personal favorites which might not be yours. The point here is that joining a club carries no requirement to get very involved. It gives you an option to play more games with people who like the same games, or gives you a way to see what other games are like. Not to mention meeting other folks... So, if you are at the Silver, Gold, or Platinum levels, take advantage and check out all of the Club options! G*Luck_&_Enjoy! |
