Over the weekend, the network where our server is located went down again. This had happened three times before in the past week. In order to get the site back up, and to ensure better service in the future, our ISP took the server to another facility and plugged it into a more stable network. When it came back up, it had to be given a new IP address, and that necessitated changes in the DNS entry, which can take 24 to 72 hours to propagate fully through the internet. The end result was that, although the server was down for only a few hours, many people couldn't get to the site for a lot longer.
