1. Try to keep all 3 pieces in contact. Don't create a double row until you have to - Remember, if you double up too early, your next move is probably going to leave 2 singles within enemy range....

2 When moving your 3 pieces try to keep a different spacing between pieces 1&2 and 2&3. So, if pieces 1&2 are next to each other and there is a 1 space gap between 2 and 3, you should be able to double up if the dice throw has a difference of 1 (i.e.3&2) by moving pieces 1&2, 2(i.e. 4&2) by moving pieces 2&3 or 3(i.e. 5&2) by moving pieces 1&3.

It's not foolproof (you may throw a double 6 for instance), but it does lessen the odds of your opponent being able to remove one of your pieces off the board with his/her next throw...
