Keep your eye on the prize in the middle game. Always look at your score before you finalize your move. If your score did not get bigger and you did not make a defensive move re-evaluate your move. You might not have added a pipe to your main line but to a side line. Also look for a way to add 3 pipes to your score before settling for a single pipe.
