Want a membership, but can't afford one?
Dear Player,
We understand times are hard for everyone, especially with the recession taking so long to recover around the world. Here on GoldToken, we are working at creative ways for players having a difficult time to earn a membership. We really do want you to be able to play all the games and enjoy the benefits of being a greater part of our GoldToken family. As such, we would be happy to trade your donation of service for a lovely Silver, Gold or Platinum membership.
There are lots of possibilities and we are open to suggestions. Perhaps you would be interested in hosting a discussion board, or maybe you are creative, good with words or have valuable wiki skills. If so, we need you!
Currently, these positions have openings:
- Host a Discussion Board - Do you have interest in a specific topic on one of GoldToken's quieter discussion boards? If so, this job is for you! A DB host's responsibility is to get players interested in those topics, creating an active atmosphere on that board. This easy and fun position earns a Silver membership!
- Host a Game Board - Host a specific game on a DB, like Joggle Jungle for example, or, a new game of your design. We are open to options! A DB Game that is run daily earns a Platinum membership, games managed weekly earn a Gold membership and games managed biweekly earn a Silver membership.
- Classroom 101 - Do you have special knowledge about something? Would you be willing to teach it to others? We are seeking players to teach a 30 to 60 day class (it can be on most anything that would be of interest to others). Perhaps you are a Checker master, speak a foreign language or understand PhotoShop and have the skills to teach others. If so, it is worth a membership to us!
- Newsletter editor - The newsletter editor responsibilities include setting up and organizing the monthly newsletter. This position requires good English, correct spelling, wiki skills and good organization.
- Newsletter reporters - All reporters need submit a monthly article on your given topic and can include various topics like specific games, computer information etc. These positions require good English, correct spelling, wiki skills and good organization.
- Graphic Designers - We have a special need for someone talented in animated icon creation and for someone interested in game graphics.
- Programmers - Must know and understand Perl, have good English, correct spelling, be able to follow direction and have good communication skills. Active programmers earn a Platinum membership.
- Contest Directors - Players to manage our various site contests, write the news in both the Game sheet news and also in the monthly newsletter and post appropriate polls for GoldToken's monthly site contests. This position requires good English, correct spelling, wiki skills and good organization.
- Don't see something that interests you but have a great idea? Send it to us! We are open to suggestions! After all, GoldToken is a site built for and by it's players!

August's game of the month is Ludocarte! Join us in a fun Double Elimination Tournament by signing up today for The August 2013 - Game of the Month - Ludocarte! Tournament!
Why play Ludocarte instead of Ludocrous?
In Ludocrous, no matter what you roll, you always go forward and all of your strategy is based on that concept.
Ludocarte takes that concept and turns it on his head.
Instead of 6, 8, or 10 possible forward options, it gives you:
- 12 different forward options
- 4 different chances to get out of start
- 2 options to affect your opponents pieces in addition to landing on them by switching or taking over their position in a space,
- and, most intriguingly, 2 possibilities to move backwards.
The whole strategy in playing is different when you start trying to think backwards as well as forwards.
This chart appears in the help box beneath the board in Ludocarte It will give you an idea of the vast differences between Ludocrous and Ludocarte:
Ace- Advance by 1 square, or move a piece out of Start
Two- Advance by 2 squares and move again
Three- Advance by 3 squares
Four- Advance by 4 squares
Five- Advance by 5 squares, or switch places with an opponent
Six- Advance by 6 squares, or move 9 squares backwards
Seven- Advance by 7 squares, or move a piece out of Start
Eight- Advance by 8 squares, or equally split the move between two pieces
Nine- Advance by 9 squares, or move 6 squares backwards
Ten- Advance by 10 squares, or equally split the move between two pieces
Jack- Advance by 11 squares, or move a piece out of Start
Queen- Advance by 12 squares, or move 1 square backwards
King- Move a piece out of Start to a square occupied by any opponent, sending that piece back to its own Start

A family favourite..I hope you enjoy it Smiling
Potatoe Salad
Ingredients
8 – 10 medium potatoes, cooked and diced
1-1 ½ cups mayonnaise
1 tablespoon yellow mustard
1 tablespoon green relish
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon garlic plus
1/2 teaspoon pepper
2 celery stalks, sliced
5-10 green onions cut into small pieces
2- 3 hard-boiled eggs cooled
Dash of Paprika
Directions
Boil, cool and dice potatoes into a large bowl.
Mix mayonnaise, salt and pepper, mustard, relish, garlic plus in a bowl and mix well.
Add mixture to potatoes
Add onions and celery. Mix well.
Slice and stir in eggs.
Sprinkle a little paprika on top.
Serves 6-8

We would like to say
to smiler5 for letting us step into their personal life for a bit.1. What brought you to GoldToken?
My sister cekj introduced me to GT. She had no idea what she was starting!
How'd you choose your name for GT?
A good friend always calls me Smiler and I love the number 5
2. What interests you most on GT?
What interests me most is the sheer variety of what the site offers! At first it was learning new games, but then I took on some responsibilities here and wiki-editing became the priority. Now,as a Club Owner, it's thinking of ideas for new and different tourneys!
-Your all time favorite game here?
Can't possibly choose just one! I really do like variety. If pushed I would probably go for Hanging Diceman though.
3. Do you belong to any of the clubs?
41 clubs at the moment! I am a President in 6 Clubs, including Olympic Team Juno - Go Go Go Team Juno!
this year. I'm also the owner of The Daily Laugh Club which I love running with my great team of Officers. 
4. What State or Country do you reside in?
I live in County Durham in the North East of England. England
Do you live in the City or Country? What in your State or Country do you think tourist should definitely see?
I live in the town,
but am surrounded by beautiful countryside,
less than 5 minutes away. 
Durham Cathedral is a wonderful historic place .....a 'must-see'. I would also recommend a visit to Stratford (Shakespeare's birthplace) and to my favourite British city, Edinburgh.
5. What hobbies to you have?
When I retired I was invited to join the local Rotary Club. I love being involved in several community projects and having fun at the same time!
What other interests do you have?
Reading is my greatest passion. I can't imagine life without books! I love to discuss literature on the Library
DB here at GT. I also enjoy crosswords, 
swimming, 
theatre, bridge and travel 
6. Children?
Do any of them play on GT?
No children but I do have 39 godchildren (quite a challenge when it comes to birthdays!) and 2 lovely nieces.
They haven't yet succumbed to the GT habit.
7. Do you work?
If so what kind of work do you do?
Do you enjoy your job?
I taught English and French to children age 11 to 18, then became the Headmistress (Principal in the US) of a day and boarding school in 2003. I retired in 2011. I absolutely loved my job. What can be better than sharing what you love with young minds!
Every day brought a smile 8. Any pets?
No pets.I worked very long hours so not conducive to having a pet. Somehow I seem to be equally busy post-retirement!
9. Are you under 30?___ 30 to 50? ___ or over 50?
Over 50 in years, but still a kid at heart!
10. What's the farthest you have been from home?
Was it a vacation or for business?
China, Malaysia and Indonesia are the places furthest from home to which I've travelled. I made several trips to these places to meet the parents of the boarders at my school and to recruit new ones!
11. If you could be anywhere right now where would that be?
Right here! I am a contented person and enjoy life. It would be good though to have a pool in my garden
...........Can golderos buy those? 
12. Favorite season?
Autumn..........love the colours!

I am a wife, mother and grandmother from Massachusetts, USA and have been a member of Gold Token since Feb of 2002.
Being a novice of the computer, I started playing a few games and manged to type in Hi, Good Luck, then got my nerve up and joined The Wolf Pack, led by RabidWolff. this great pack of wolves taught me how to play in club tournaments and made me feel right at home.
Eliphont551 and Cachel of the M8's took me under their wings and showed me how a club is run, making wiki's and running tournaments and was appointed as an officer in their club.
Then I met Porkpie1, he gave me the opportunity to help run his new club The Pork Chop, which I now co own with him and eliphont551. I'm now in several clubs and participate in site tournaments and ladders as well.
Gold Token has become my second family. Everyone here is for each other through the good and the bad. I will treasure these friendships forever.

August's contest is for the Best Nugget submitted throughout the month. All entries will be posted in a poll, and the winner will be announced in next month's newsletter.
Nuggets articles give players an opportunity to write various tutorials, strategy guides, and other materials related to playing each of our many games, as well as general information about our various site features. Once approved, the new Nugget article will be added to the appropriate category for all the players to see.
Searching and sorting functionality is also available, allowing you to easily find what you are looking for.
Guest and Wood level players can submit one Nugget per month. Players with a Silver membership or higher can submit as many articles as they want.
When submitting articles, please be sure to only submit content that you have written yourself, or that you have a permission from the author to post here. Citations and links are obviously fine, as long as they do not lead to inappropriate content.

The Friendship Club are having some great game challenges of Members aganist the Club Officers. Beat the Officers challenge has been a great success , members signed up to play the officer in their favorite games. No word yet on who has won this challenge?? Be sure to catch up with this challenge next month for results.
The Overall Competition Club is about to start the second half of its 2013 edition. Each month the club offers six golderos in prizes while seventy golderos are awarded at the end of the year. Currently the provisional leaders of the monthly challenges are McGoo98 and EPICURUS 75 (January), McGoo98 (February), Hamsarnie (March), DavidJ (April), Road Runner (May), and Senorita ZORRO_ (June). The overall 2013 leaders are DavidJ and McGoo98, followed by Road Runner, the celt, EPICURUS 75, TrueIndian , Hamsarnie, AndrewB, jklh, and Lyonsgirl. A new monthly challenge starts at the end of each month.
The Daily Laugh Club has started a new tourney each day, that's 273 tourneys up to 31st July. The club owner reports that she is thrilled that not one has failed to fill up and run! They have played over 100 different game types and managed to fit in clubvclub challenges, wikiless tourneys, inter-club matches and special games too. The latest of these is 'Who's the Best Builder' and members are honing their brickie skills in preparation!
Recently they joined 5 more Club ladders and their membership is now close to the maximum allowed.
The Daily Laugh Club says "Thank you to all who make Daily Laugh a great Club Cheerleader".
{ Club } reports that on August 28th they will be 11 yrs old. Nancy and Honeybear would like to thank all their members for making { Club } such a great place to be.
The To Your Health Club will soon have their "Champs" named. Game tournaments are being run in house to name the Champion of each game. These Champs will be named on the Club home page and receive a special "To Your Health Token". The Champ title will stay in effect until or if they are knocked out by tournies to follow. Whist will start this week, Loco Ocho, Backgammon, American Rummikub and Hypergammon are already under way.
The West of the Setting Sun Club will be running a Go 13×13 club tournament.Any Club member is free to participate. No invitation is required to join the club. All playing strengths are welcome. For more information contact T-Rex
