Game Of The Month |
February's game of the month is Gami! Join us in a fun Double Elimination Tournament by signing up today for The February 2014 - Game of the Month - Gami! Tournament!
gami
This game is not a rummy game where you want all your card to make gamis but instead a game that you want to try to make one gami each turn and to limit your opponents ability to make a gami
To make a gami, you need to make a run of 3, with two odd numbered cards or have a triplet of an even numbered cards
The game works by swapping one of your cards with the 6 cards in the middle.
Can you make a gami?
if you can , then make it
if you can't could your opponent make a gami, if so, can you take the card from the stockpile which stops them making a gami
If you make a gami, then your number one goal in taking a card is stopping your opponent making a gami, because if they can
they will take one of your cards back. If they can't then try to take a card which helps you make another gami next turn.
If you have a gami, say 3 4 5 hearts, then if you swap one of the ends out e.g swap 5 for 6 hearts, as long as your opponent doesnt take the card or form a gami to take the 3 or 4, the following turn you can swap the 6 back for the 5 and form a gami. Thus , once you gain a little control of the game, you should be able to make a gami every second turn
Of course, your opponent may want to stop you and disrupt you as best they can.
After you get used to the concept of the game, it is very fun , so give it a try
We hope you enjoy it!

January's winner is: Lemon Meringue Pie
- Submitted by crow57
PIE CRUST
1-1/2 cup Crisco (vegetable Shortening) 3 cups All-purpose Flour 1 whole Egg 5 Tablespoons Cold Water 1 Tablespoon White Vinegar 1 teaspoon Salt
Preparation Instructions
In a large bowl, with a pastry cutter, gradually work the Crisco into the flour for about 3 or 4 minutes until it resembles a coarse meal. In a small bowl, beat an egg with a fork and then pour it into the flour/shortening mixture. Add 5 tablespoons of cold water, 1 tablespoon of white vinegar and 1 teaspoon of salt. Stir together gently until all of the ingredients are incorporated.
Separate the dough into thirds. This makes 3 thin crust if you like a bit thicker crust cut in half. Form 3 or 2 evenly sized balls of dough and place each dough into a large Ziploc bag. Using a rolling pin, slightly flatten each ball of dough (about half inch thick) to make rolling easier later. Seal the bags and place them in the freezer until you need them. If using the crust that day still put it in but for only 15-20 minutes.
When you are ready to use the dough to make a crust, remove from the freezer and allow to thaw for 15 minutes. On a floured surface roll the dough, starting at the center and working your way out. Sprinkle some flour over top of the dough if it’s a bit too moist. If the dough is sticking to the countertop use a spatula and carefully scrape it up and flip it over and continue rolling until it’s about half inch larger in diameter than your pie pan.
With a spatula, lift the dough carefully from the surface of the counter into the pie pan. Gently press the dough against the corner of the pan. Go around the pie pan pinching and trimming the dough to make a clean edge. Dock the crust and cook in a 350 oven for 5-10 minutes.
Lemon Meringue filling
1 cup white sugar
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
3 tablespoons cornstarch
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 cups water
2 lemons, juiced and zested
2 tablespoons butter
4 egg yolks, beaten
1 (9 inch) pie crust, baked
4 egg whites (DO NOT GET ANY YOLKS IN THE WHITES)
6 tablespoons white sugar
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
2. To Make Lemon Filling:
In a medium saucepan, whisk together 1 cup sugar, flour, cornstarch, and salt. Stir in water, lemon juice and lemon zest. Cook over medium-high heat, stirring frequently, until mixture comes to a boil. Stir in butter. Place egg yolks in a small bowl and gradually whisk in half cup of hot sugar mixture. Whisk egg yolk mixture back into remaining sugar mixture. Bring to a boil and continue to cook while stirring constantly until thick. Remove from heat. Pour filling into baked pastry shell.
3. To Make Meringue:
In a large glass or metal bowl, whip egg whites until foamy. Add sugar gradually, and continue to whip until stiff peaks form. Spread meringue over pie, sealing the edges at the crust.
4. Bake in preheated oven for 10 minutes, or until meringue is golden brown.

Currently reside in Colorado Springs, Colorado USA.
Do you live in the City or Country?

Everyone should see Pikes Peak during a sunrise. It's something you won't forget.
5. What hobbies to you have?
I like helping people, sports (mainly football, tennis, hockey), playing pool, walking on a beach, history, sci-fi, playing frisbee with my dog (though at the moment all I have is the frisbee).
6. Children?

We call them cats but they're really just small furry people.

Testimonial Of The Month |
Brought to you by: *GoldToken* Players |
Recently, I got my acorn token for spending one year playing on Gold Token and during that time, I've marveled at how many nice people I've met. I don't mean that in a bland way, because so many people helped me navigate the site in the beginning, taught me how to play new games or tried to increase my skills in those I already knew. It takes a lot of patience to do that with a seemingly dense newbie. Along the way, I've had wonderful conversations on a myriad of topics and made some hopefully lasting friendships. And it's not just me, I've seen people commiserate on the loss of a pet or loved one, compliment photos and encourage those who are sick or feeling low.
I make it sound as if we are actually in Mayberry or Shangri-La, but there really is a sense of community on GT. Which is odd for a gaming site, if you think about it. Here we are competing with each other, which ought to bring out the cunning and cutthroat parts of our personalities, but instead, people are genuinely friendly and considerate. I've not met any nasty people so far, which is remarkable given the number of people here.
A large part of it, I think, is the prevailing culture on Gold Token. There's an expectation that you will be on your best behavior and that raises the bar. Not in a rigid way, but in an encouraging manner, creating a culture of kindness. It's much like that teacher you might've had in school, who expected a lot from you and therefore you lived up to it. Having seen that sort of atmosphere on GT, it makes me wish it could be applied to the rest of the world, which would make it a much better place.
