January's winner is: Bundt Lemon Cake
Cake
3 cups sifted unbleached all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
8 ounces (2 sticks) unsalted butter
2 cups sugar
4 large eggs
1 cup milk
Finely grated zest of 2 large lemons
Glaze
1/3 cup lemon juice
2/3 cup sugar
Adjust an oven rack one-third up from the bottom of oven. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Butter a plain or fancy tube pan with an 11- to 12-cup capacity and dust it lightly with fine, dry bread crumbs.
Sift together flour, baking powder, and salt and set aside. In large bowl of electric mixer, beat the butter to soften it a bit. Add the sugar and beat for 2 to 3 minutes. Beat in the eggs individually, scraping the bowl as necessary with a rubber spatula to keep mixture smooth. On lowest speed, alternately add the dry ingredients in three additions and the milk in two additions, scraping the bowl with the rubber spatula as necessary and beating only until incorporated after each addition. Remove the bowl from the mixer. Stir in lemon zest. Turn the batter into prepared pan. Level top by rotating pan briskly back and forth.
Bake for 1 hour and 5 to 10 minutes, until a cake tester comes out dry.
Let cake stand in the pan for about 5 minutes and then cover with a rack and invert. Place over a large piece of aluminum foil or wax paper.
The glaze should be used immediately after it is mixed: Stir the lemon juice and sugar together and brush all over the hot cake until absorbed.
Let cake cool completely. Use two wide metal pancake turners or a cookie sheet to transfer it to a cake plate. Do not cut for at least several hours.
Best to make on New Years Eve.

**~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~**
We would like to say to M3 for letting us step into their personal life for a bit.
1. How'd you choose your name for GT?
I chose my name M3 after moving away from NET NOMAD and also, I think, from 17th Gambit. I think that I wanted something short which said something. I explain at M3's Blog. I added boldface. (I could tell why I left NET NOMAD, but you did not ask that.)
Musings. M3 is for Edwin Vieira Jr.'s 3 themes: Meaning, Militia, and Money. M3 = Money Supply Measure formerly published by the U. S. government
2. What interests you most on GT? Do you have a favorite game?
I like Chess variants, Go 19x19 & 13x13, and Checkers as well as some other games. To me Checkers seems hard because it is "formless". Where is the target? I like to be able to chat with people. One can meet some interesting folks here. I played against a physician who worked on a Mercy Ship years ago. The clubs maybe used to be more active. The CoViD scam hurt folks' morale, I think. Also folks keep dying off. Some of it is my fault. Not active enough.. Brainstorming changing the name of Down With Regular Chess Club with the help of its founder and an Australian gal was interesting. She made a good teammate. We both got scolded by management for trying to swoop in to rescue a club. Smiling I think we might have succeeded had we been allowed to try. Another gal used to help with Checkers, but she lost heart. A cheerleader can keep on only so long if others don't follow or help. Figuring out how to play the Xiphias-family games well and posting things about them in its club was interesting too. Fairly well solved now.
3. What state or country do you reside in? What do you think tourists should definitely see?
I dwell or am an inhabitant (not reside, which is temporary to render government services) in Wisconsin. I was born and raised there.
Many things to see. I never got around to going about and exploring yet. I was to the first five.
Octagon House in Watertown and a reconstructed log house in Lebanon which used to be in Watertown
Watertown has St. Bernard's Church building which was meant to be the Archdiocese before Madison was built to be the State Capital. Impressive building.
Dodge County Fairgrounds during their County Fair
Farmer's Markets if they get here the right time of the year
Devil's Lake State Park
Up by Lake Superior
Door County
up north in Wisconsin when the leaves are changing color. I hear that is beautiful
Be sure to read some. This is not a long enough list.
4. What hobbies do you have?
I learned Chess (unknown photo) when I was nine but didn't have the moves right at first. I read about politics some and am interested in restraining tyranny. I used to listen to VCY Radio faithfully years ago. Not so much anymore. I like to watch TV. I used to know what was on when back when we watched antenna TV. Now I watch a fair amount of YouTube and some other things using ROKU. I also watch Odysee and Rumble some. Web-surfing. Once upon a time I was in Cross Country, but that was in New Ulm, Minnesota. I never worked out running paths here in Watertown. Learning about herbs and other health things.
5. Children? Grandchildren?
No children or grandchildren. Did not get my career figured out when young. Never married.
6. Do you work? What kind of work do/did you do?
Retired now. Might try to do something to get more money to spend. Some about my work history below.
With Dad & brothers in Pa's carpentry business when young, at local factory about 17 months then back to work with Pa for part of a few years, at a nearby vegetable processing plant seasonally (harvest time usually) over thirty years unsuccessful tryouts
7. Any pets?
No pet of my own now. Once had a dog in my name. "My" pets now belong to my sister or brother.
8. Are you under 30?___ 30 to 50? ___ or over 50? Male or Female?
Slightly Crossed Fingers over 50. 64 now. Male
9. Favorite food?
Favorite food? Hmm. I like fudge, pizza, beef liver, carrot cake , Grape Nuts, milk , chocolate .... Must one choose? Not very helpful to you, I guess.
10. What's the farthest you've been from home?
Texas roughly 1300 miles away, I think. Also rode along to North Dakota with a friend, merely 900 or so miles one way. (Feigned boredom)
11. If you could be anywhere right now, where would that be?
Teleport once a week? Not sure. Hmm. I might check out some place warmer like the tropics . Seeing places I learned of in school might be nice. Hard to choose.
12. Favorite season?
Summer evenings are delightful. I am not fond of high heat over 90F, but around 80F is fine. I used to run outside in winter about forty years ago. Snow Fresh outside air beat the air in the gym.
13. Favorite movie?
Not sure which movie is my favorite. I enjoyed many. Watching old ones on TV with Mom was pleasant, for example, The Black Shield of Falworth. So many good one were on TV years ago. I recall one in which man and woman sang back and forth "I am calling you".
14. If you could meet anyone (living or dead) in the world, who would it be?
Meet anyone? Dizzy I would like to meet several, for sure, but picking merely one now eludes me. Here are some: Leonard Nimoy, Fess Parker who played Daniel Boone, David Carradine, William Shatner (he could scold me for not doing something more important than meeting him), Edwin Vieira (Jr.), the actor who played Daniel Jackson on Stargate, Jordan Peterson, ....
If there are any questions you would like to see asked in future interviews, please let us know.

I started playing on GoldToken back in 2016, I wanted to keep my mind sharp for my Sport I play so I googled 'board games' and found GoldToken.I love playing most board games so this Website is perfect for me. I have meet some awesome people on here. I play most days. The best thing about GoldToken is you can play multiple games and multiple people all over the world at the same time.
I have a disability called Cerebral Palsy, Spent all my life in a wheelchair, So I have a lot of spare time on my hands so GoldToken is perfect for me. I use a trackball mouse with my foot to make all the moves, and I use a head-pointer for typing on the computer. In 2000 I started playing a sport called Boccia, it has taken me all over the world, I have played at two Paralympics games, 2004 in Athens and 2008 in Beijing. That was amazing.

Pony Up! |

Can you guess the movies by the pictures above? Two of our winners correctly guessed Dead Man Walking AND The Fight Club and won a Pony Up token! There were also pictures for well known phrases that players correctly guessed and won. January also had a caption contest, find the funniest winter squirrel picture and find the mistakes.
If you get a chance after playing your games, come by and check us out. The board has brand new tokens, and they could wind up on your profile page! So, what are you waiting for? We'd be so glad for you to join in on the fun! (unknown photo)

Up Front & Personal |
Interview by: laura lee |
