Where do the "suggested opponents" on my gamesheet come from?

One of the frustrating things about playing board games is finding an opponent who is just right for you. As Goldilocks discovered when she visited the home of the three bears, you don't want an opponent who is much more skilled at the game than you are, nor do you want one who offers little challenge. One of the great features of this site is our suggested opponents.

Here is how it works:
We use a rating system This site uses a rating system to estimate your skill in every game you play. The more games you complete, the more accurate this rating system becomes. You can read about { Info: how the rating system works } for more details.

We make suggestions Based on your performance in the games you have completed, we will suggest opponents that we feel will offer a good competition to you. We do this by comparing your rating to the ratings of other players at this site, and then recommending the players who most closely match your skill level.

The suggestions change according to your skill If you are just getting started, we make suggestions based on our average player. If you end up winning the game, we suggest a more skilled opponent for the next game. If you end up losing, our next suggestion will be against another player who is also still getting the hang of the game. As your skills in the game improve, so will the skill set of your suggested opponents.

We'll find the right opponent for you!

Game Of The Month

Return on Investment

This chart shows the clubs which provide (in theory) the best value for money. There are two main factors behind the calculations: The cost of membership versus the income received, and the frequency that a club is landed on.

Landing Frequency
The left column shows the average number of times a club is landed on every 1000 rolls. This is based on actual game statistics. The distribution is not level because the game will sometimes send players to a new location after a dice roll (because of Risky and Sticky cards etc.) So for example Sally's Place is landed on a lot less often than Fun Club Fantasia.

Return on Investment
The columns on the right combine the frequency landings with the return on investment (ROI) which is calculated from the cost of buying and upgrading a club compared to the income received when your opponent lands on it. For example, if you own Club to Relax Inn and Olympiads Plaza, they both provide the same return at Wood level. But Olympiads Plaza provides a much higher return than Club to Relax Inn when the clubs are upgraded to Onyx. In another example, we see that there is not much to be gained by upgrading KenNadia Court to Onyx from Platinum.

The numbers don't mean anything - It is the relative values that count. The colours are the best guide. Red is a low return - green is high!

How to use the chart
With a pinch of salt! The values are averages calculated over thousands of dice rolls. But an individual game might have only 100 dice rolls. So any individual game can give very different outcomes to the long term average. And of course, a club with a high ROI is no good to you if you don't land on it early and buy it. Perhaps one use is to give a priority on which clubs to upgrade if you own several. For example, the chart suggests that if you own Weathering Heights and Wolf's Way you should upgrade Wolf's Way first.

Risky and Sticky outnumber any individual club, because they exist in multiple locations.

I like the wave pattern that emerges - I wonder if the game designers did that deliberately?

Best Recipe Contest

June's winner is: Chicken Pot Pie

Chicken Pot Pie

Preheat oven to 350 degrees


Ingredients
2 Pie shell
1 1/2 cup of cooked choped Chicken
1 Can of Cream of Mushroom
1 Can of Cream of Celry
1 Bag of Mix Vegatable
Salt and Pepper to taste or what ever spices you would like to use..i usually use garlic and oinion power

Directions
take 1 pie shell and line your pie pan with it, in a bowel mix all your ingredints, then fill your pie shell, cover with the other shell..cut about three slits in and cook for about 1 hour or until brown..

This is real easy and so good

1. What brought you to GoldToken?

A friend at another site told me about GT.

How'd you choose your name for GT?

dellajo is a combination of my first and middle names.. Della JoAnn.... my great-grandmother called me dellajo

2. What interests you most on GT?

I love the friendliness/family atmosphere and goldies!!

Your all time favorite game here?

Favorite game?...tough...i'll come back..well, guess i'd have to say the hangman games

3. Do you belong to any of the clubs?
yes, quite a few...some I'm even President or Vice President in

4. What State or Country do you reside in?

I live in Virginia Beach, VA USA Virginia

What in your State or Country do you think tourists should definitely see?

They've gotta see Mt. Trashmore! I am so impressed with it. It used to be the city landfill! Now it's a park, lake, skateboard park, walking trails, rose garden, playgrounds,etc. you really have to see it to appreciate it. 5. What hobbies to you have?

I love to craft.. plastic canvas.. wreaths, candles, spoon roses, .. recycled crafts

I really like to minister to the homeless.. volunteer at homeless shelters doing crafts with the families and kids, or playing bingo with them.. anything to give them some fun for a few hours and take their minds off things ... a little release.. just love on 'em. Or doing the same sort of thing at other types of outreaches.. so many people out there just need a little touch of lovin'...

6. Children? Grandchildren?

I have 3 sons and 1 daughter . They have blessed me with 7 grandchildren and i just found out there is another on the way! So far there are 3 grandsons and 4 granddaughters

Do any of them play on GT?

None of them play here...

7. Do you work?

I do not work.. i'm on disability. I did work in the art office at Wichita State Univ. I loved it and actually cried the last few days of my job... i hated that i was leaving..i had to keep the door to my office closed so people didn't catch me crying! I really loved it! Very interesting working with all those artists, and the museum!

8. Any pets?

No pets .. no money to keep them

9. Are you under 30?___ 30 to 50? ___ or over 50?

I am over 50....

10. What's the farthest you've been from home?
Was it a vacation or for business?

The farthest i've been from home? Well, i was born in kansas Kansas..lived here, Maine, New Hampshire, few other states, so i guess any of them would be it! i did go to mexico once, with a youth group, but i think that might be closer than maine!

11. If you could be anywhere right now where would that be?

In a log cabin on a small lake and wooded area.... has to have a porch too.....

12. Favorite season?
spring!

I can do all things through Christ Who strengthens me.

Testimonial Of The Month

My dad loves playing board games and he started teaching me to play them when I was just 4 years old. I could beat most kids in my age groups and few wanted to play me so I was playing adults if and when I could find them. I was introduced to Gold Token by Crow57, he said it was a nice safe place for a young teenage girl when I was 16 and still in high school. Over the past 12 years so much has changed in my life: 9-11, graduating from high school, going to college, having two jobs, buying land and building a home with my boyfriend, getting married to him, having our son (Mark Christopher 1-17-2011) and a daughter (Tamber June [TJ] on 2-25-2013) in all that time GT has been a part of my life. I have enjoyed meeting so many wonderful people and I was heart broken when I lost three people I came to know as friends here. I enjoy playing the games even the ones I am not that good at. I have enjoyed my time here at GT and am looking forward to many more years and games.

What Is A Blog?

A blog (according to Wikipedia) is a website where entries are written in chronological order and commonly displayed in reverse chronological order. "Blog" can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog.
Many blogs provide commentary or news on a particular subject such as food, politics, or local news; others function as more personal online diaries. A typical blog combines text, images, and links to other blogs, web pages, and other media related to its topic.

If you decide to enter the world of blogging, you should decide what kind of blog you want your blog to be. What do you want to write about? Are you going to write about many things or something specific? Decide how often you are going to add entries, every day, once a week, once a month.
Once you have decided what you are going to write about, you need to think about how you are going to write it or enter it into your blog. Be it by text, by pictures, or even external links. A great blog will take advantage of all of the above things, your blog story or viewpoint can be enhanced and made much more enjoyable and interesting to read by the use of pictures and links.

Write about what you are passionate about, write about what you know and make sure you know what you are writing about. For the more serious bloggers, you won't be taken very seriously if your blog is full of grammar and spelling mistakes. So make sure you spellcheck.

No matter your blog content, people will continue to come back to read it as long as you continue to make it interesting!

The 2012 edition of the The Overall Competition Club is moving toward its conclusion. jbdobie is leading with 400.5 points followed by Hamsarnie with 359 and AndrewB with 303.5. One-hundred twenty-five players participated in the 2012 edition. The first rounds of the 2013 edition are completed. McGoo98 leads with 37 points followed by RabidWolff of the Wolf Pack with 31.5 and the celt with 30.5. Every month a new challenge starts (five games) with three, two, and one golderos for the top three players. The overall winners for 2013 will receive forty, twenty, and ten golderos.
