GoldToken's Monthly News |
- Ten New Games
Thanks to Mecir and all of his minions who brought these great games to the site. There are of them to choose from.
The new additions are:
•Quarto - Quarto is a two-player game, where the goal is to form combinations of various pieces, similar to Four-In-A-Row. The catch? You cannot pick the pieces to use - your opponent will be choosing the pieces for you to use, and you will be choosing pieces that your opponent places.
•Skat - The most popular card game in Germany, Skat is a fairly complex trick-taking game. It'll take some time to learn it, but it certainly will be worth it!
•Officer's Skat - A variant of Skat with much simpler rules and some other differences
•20-point Officer's Skat - Officer's Skat with a winning score of 20 (the base variant requires 10 points)
•40-point Officer's Skat - Officer's Skat with a winning score of 40 (the base variant requires 10 points)
•Inverticade - An inverted version of Barricade! Plays similarly to Barricade, but starts at the other end of the board, and the goal is to move your pieces to the home location
•Small Inverticade - Inverted version of Small Barricade.
•Dice Paper Football - Paper football with dice! The throw determines how many moves you can make.
•Dice Paper Hockey - As above, but Hockey this time!
•Dice Paper Basketball - ditto!
- Announcing...Bug Fix Month!
In January, 2015, our technical team will be devoted entirely to fixing those pesky bugs! If you've got a previously documented that's been annoying you, please send a PM to GoldToken Support so we can make sure it's on the list of fixes without cluttering the Bug Reports DB.
- It's Not Too Late!
You can still sign up for GoldToken's 2014 Winter Olympics games! The tournaments are all automated, and you are free to sign up for the games that you like. Simply join The Olympiads Club, and Jacob1987 will assign you to a team. The Mystery Games for this Olympic event will be brand_new to the site, rather than variants of existing games!
- Thanks everyone, from BrnIdGirl
Thanks to everyone who sent me a game of either Acey Deucey , Tourne-case or both. I met some new people and played some fun games. I look forward to playing more games with ya'll in the future. ~~ BrnIdGirl
I don't know where the month of October went. I swear, I blinked and it was gone! Friends have begun noting how many shopping days are left until Christmas, and I'm doing my best to ignore that information. In my part of the US, we've had our first freeze of the season! The nights are getting downright chilly, and my brave hubby is resisting turning on the heat because he knows I hate it. It's a good time of year to spend extra time playing games with friends and family and reconnecting with some of the amazing clubs GoldToken has to offer. I'd love to play some games with you - some of my favorites are the Gammons, Straight Rummikub, Inverticade, and Quarto...but I'm willing to give any game a try! See you in the games! ~heyred72

Site tips and helpful tools |
Spoof
Spoof is not a regular game like the others. Instead, Spoof is a profile token trading game. The idea is that each participant can pick some of their profile tokens to Spoof, and any other participant can then attempt to guess how many tokens the player has Spoofed. If successful, the guesser receives one random Spoofed token from the target.
Tokens that are not added to Spoof cannot be obtained in this way - if you have tokens that you would like to keep, you can still participate with your other tokens, without putting the valuable tokens at risk!
To join Spoof, a link has been provided on your profile page, right above your token list. Once you have joined, you can also Spoof your tokens and use the Spoof player list page to make your guesses.
Several important restrictions exist to ensure that the game is enjoyable:
•Your number of guesses per day is limited to the number of your Spoofed tokens
•You can only target any player once per week
•You cannot leave Spoof if you have made any guess within the last week
•As soon as you make a guess, all your Spoofed tokens become frozen and you cannot remove them from your Spoof list for one week.
•You can still add more tokens and remove those
•If you make a correct guess, the token that you receive is not frozen - you can remove it right away if you wish
To make a Spoof guess, you can either access the list of Spoof participants from your profile page (above the token list), or you can perform a guess from the profile page of your desired target, if he or she is also participating (the link is on the right side of the profile, below the search form). The participant list is randomized to ensure that players with names earlier in the alphabet are not disadvantaged.
* If you have a question about a site tip or helpful tool you would like answered next month, please send GoldToken's Newshound a message before the 25th of this month.

Game Of The Month |
October's game of the month is Domination! Join us in a fun Double Elimination Tournament by signing up today for The 2014 - Game of the Month - Domination Tournament!
a few other tips
Each variant has it's own "specialties", but the basics pretty much remain constant. In addition to getting a defeated opponents card, if YOU'RE the One that defeats Their last standing army...
It never hurts to break an opponents color/territory domination. Hence, the name of the game, lol. If You can take ONE territory of an opposing Players, and it prevents them having an entire "color block" owned by them alone when it's their turn, they will have fewer armies when their turn arrives.
It also pays to take a look at Your Fellow Gamers. Many Whom play it, play it a LOT. They know what They're doing, and if they also happen to be a Chum (or have another reason to "connect" with You), it's possible They may offer some advice. After all, We're ALL playing for fun. At least, those of Us Whom play as often as possible 8^)
I'll wrap up this nugget with 4 final reminders............
1. Once You have a territory owned, try and protect it.
2. Use strategy. Look for weakness, and exploit it. One bite at a time. It's better to grow slowly, than to over extend what You have.
3. It only takes ONE victory each turn to get a card, and cards + territories owned are where You'll get most of Your armies.
4. And, the most important thing to remember? It's still just a fun, friendly, silly Game. SO.....HeHeHe... Have Fun, and Happy Hunting 8^)
We hope you enjoy it!

**~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~**
We would like to say to LittleTree for letting us step into their personal life for a bit.
1. What brought you to GoldToken?
I was playing on IYT and I surfed the web looking for more games to play. Once I found GoldToken, I never looked back. It's the only game site I play on.
How'd you choose your name for GT?
My nic is in memory of my sister who passed away. Her husband called her LittleTree because of our Indian Heritage, slight though it is.
2. What interests you most on GT?
I love everything about GoldToken, from the games, clubs, discussion boards, tournaments and contests. But mostly interacting with other players and making new friends!
Your all time favorite game here?
My favorite game varies and changes continually. Currently it is Thematic Hangman.
3. Do you belong to any of the clubs?
I belong to The Innocent Instigators Club, The Hoot's Tournament Club, The Olympiads Club and The Side of the Milk Carton Club. I thoroughly enjoy them all.
4. What State or Country do you reside in?
Do you live in the City or Country?
I live in Southern Illinois. I am outside the city limits but not quite the country anymore with many new developments popping up. Far enough away from town to have free range geese, ducks, turkeys, chickens and woods.
What in your State or Country do you think tourists should definitely see?
There is much to see in Southern Illinois. Shawnee National Forest with numerous hiking trails, Garden of the Gods, Little Grand Canyon. We have beautiful scenery with hills, cliffs and forests. Wine trails are popular here too, winding along the forests.
5. What hobbies to you have?
Gardening is my favorite hobby. I spend most of my time outdoors in the spring and summer. I love to read and of course, play my games on here. (Is chocolate a hobby?)
6. Children?
Grandchildren?
Do any of them play on GT?
I have one daughter, two grandaughters, 1 step grandaughter and 1 step grandson. My daughter used to play on here but hasn't for years.
7. Do you work?
If so what kind of work did you do?
I am retired and loving it! I was a dietary manager at a rehab center. Go figure! I hate to cook! But I didn't have to cook so it worked for me!
8. Any pets?
I have an Airedale Terrier who has never fully realized he is a dog.
9. Are you under 30?___ 30 to 50? ___ or over 50?
Male or Female?
I am female, over 50. OK, I am way over 50! But wiser, nonetheless!
10. What's the farthest you've been from home?
I guess the farthest I have been from home is Canada, just to go there. But when younger, I lived in many states over the course of years; North, South, West and now East. I have finally established roots!
11. If you could be anywhere right now, where would that be?
Anywhere? Right where I am!
12. Favorite season?
My favorite season is Spring, a time of renewal. (and I finally get outside after a long winter!)
If there are any questions you would like to see asked in future interviews, please let us know.

October 21,2001. 14 years ago I came to this little ole game site and started playing backgammon..Since then I have brought some new players to this site, I have adopted players, help pay for some players membership, someone helped me pay for my membership, bought GT merchandise, won some contest and won prizes, met a lot of great people, lost some good friends here as well. All in all it's been a good 14 years and I am looking forward for more good years to come. Great family run site.
What brought you to GoldToken? PROUD AMERICAN introduced me to this site
Looking forward to many more years on GT. A fond memory, I have so many good memories and sad ones too. But one thing still remains the same, Goldtoken family fun and entertainment that keeps me coming back for more..
Thank you Chad for creating this dream and thank you Badger for keeping the dream alive.
