Ruth Reichl's Spaghetti Carbonara
Serves 3
1 pound spaghetti
1/4 to 1/2 pound thickly sliced good quality bacon (I prefer Nueske's)
2 cloves garlic, peeled
2 large eggs
Black pepper
1/2 cup grated Parmigiano cheese, plus extra for the table
Bring a large pot of salted water to boil. When it is boiling, throwthe spaghetti in. Most dried spaghetti takes 9 to 10 minutes to cook,and you can make the sauce in that time.
Cut the bacon crosswise into pieces about 1/2 inch wide. Put them in a skillet and cook for 2 minutes, until fat begins to render. Add the whole cloves of garlic and cook another 5 minutes, until the edges of the bacon just begin to get crisp. Do not overcook; if they get too crisp they won't meld with the pasta. Meanwhile, break the eggs into the bowl you will serve the pasta in, and beat them with a fork. Add some grindings of pepper.
Remove the garlic from the bacon pan. If it looks like too much to you, discard some, but you're going to toss the bacon with most of its fat into the pasta. When it is cooked, drain the pasta and immediately throw it into the beaten eggs. Mix thoroughly. The heat of the spaghetti will cook the eggs and turn them into a sauce. Add the bacon with its fat, toss again, add cheese and serve.

A little bit about me. My name is Klaus, I turned 55 in July. I've been married for 20 years now. My daughter has already moved out.
My hobbies are cycling, walking, and sometimes jogging. I enjoy vacations in hotels with delicious food. I also enjoy chess and, of course, playing on Goldtoken.
I became aware of Goldtoken through a very nice and active player from Australia. We played tournament chess on Chess.com. It was a club game between Germany and Australia.
The community and the games here are great. I wish I had been here years ago! I'm having a lot of fun here. I like the friendly and sometimes very tough and skilled players here!
I played my first game here on Goldtoken in early April 2019. It was pretty difficult for me to get started. I wasn't familiar with things like ladders, wiki, and non-wiki tournaments. In addition, there were lots of clubs with their own rules and different officers, which seemed incomprehensible to me. Then there were also numerous forums, club news, nuggets, etc. It was all quite confusing for me.
Over the last 6 years, I have acquired many skills here. I learn very slowly
I was wet behind the ears back then. I just wanted to play and have fun.
I didn't know most of the games yet. Now I know almost all the games here! And in some of them, I'm one of the top players. I get along well with most of my fellow players. I rarely have conflicts with them.
Won silver for the first time in the 2021 Winter Olympics!
And I won bronze in the 2022 Winter Olympics.
That was tough. The competition is fierce.

to stinky_malinky for letting us step into their personal life for a bit.1. How'd you choose your name for GT?
- This is a weird one. When I was a child there was a nursery rhyme "skinny malinky long legs, big banana feet" and I misremembered that nursery rhyme as stinky malinky!
2. What interests you most on GT? Do you have a favorite game?
- I almost exclusively play site managed tournaments now, purely because I often have 600+ games at a time, so far less admin needed. Aside from that I have a few games running with site friends.
3. What state or country do you reside in? What do you think tourists should definitely see?
- I am from, and live, in the UK Great Britain, in a small town in the North-West. Other players from the UK would know the town for our former MP being jailed
last year for punching 
a constituent, and a long-running BBC sitcom from the 90's-00's
4. What hobbies do you have?
- I work in technology
so naturally have a keen interest in that, and have an interest in many sports too 
5. Children? Grandchildren?
- 4 children , 2 grand-pups
and 2 grand-kittens 
6. Do you work? What kind of work do/did you do?
- I work in IT, and have done for 28 years now
7. Any pets?
- We have a springer spaniel
, Rosie, who is approaching 14 years old, she joined our family at 8-weeks old. We also have a 3 year old Horsefield tortoise called Fergus

- Indian food - curries mainly

- In my former job, I spent a lot of time in the US, especially '18 & '19, so that would be the furthest distance. In terms of distance from home it would be Houston which is about 4750 miles from my home

- Summer, 100%. I think I get Seasonal Adjustment Disorder when the dark nights set in (unknown photo)

I didn't know most of the games yet. Now I know almost all the games here! And in some of them, I'm one of the top players. I get along well with most of my fellow players. I rarely have conflicts with them.
Won silver for the first time in the 2021 Winter Olympics!
And I won bronze in the 2022 Winter Olympics.
