Congrats to the winning teams and players, and thank you to everyone who participated! A heartfelt to the hard-working volunteers who made this event possible!
- New games introduced to the main site in August
- Several new Senet variants (including short versions) are now available:
- 1-4-5 Senet - Senet variant where you can move again if you throw a 1, 4, or 5
- Hit and Run Senet - a variant of Bell's Senet, where you can move again if you land on an opponent's piece
- Swapping Senet - landing on a piece causes the landed-on piece to be swapped with the moving one, instead of moving back to the start
- Pitstop Senet - Moving past the final squares can only be done one square at a time
- All-Aboard - a game for 2 - 5 players, where the goal is to build train routes between cities. Thank you to FixitDave for his graphics!
- A Different Perspective on Playing Speed
I’d like to add my name to the list of players that disagree with your proposed solution to end "Endless" tournaments!
Admittedly, I’m a slowpoke. I have over 500 active games with 100 or so active over 9 months. But, I don’t see myself as an abuser of the system or being inconsiderate of others just because I’m not able to make moves as quickly as some would like.
I used to enjoy playing in the Olympic tourneys. But, when the time limits were added, I soon quit. I hate to win or lose by forfeit. I played in the first Overall Competition that 1926 set up. Enjoyed it as well. Played many games that I’d never tried previously. But, when the time limits were added, I had to leave the club.
Sometimes, I think I spend more time managing a club than playing games. But, I enjoy the little club I inherited. I’m proud of how active we are and how well we do... especially compared with all the mega clubs. I miss doing all the club vs club wiki challenges. Folks just don’t seem to have the time for non-automated challenges.
Therefore, I mainly play in the monthly club challenges. When the proposed solution is implemented, I’ll no longer be able to play in those tourneys. I will no longer have a reason to be in a club which has become the main reason I’m a paid member of this site.
I know you will never be able to please everyone; but, I think you’ve already gone above and beyond in trying to accommodate the speedy players with 1 day tourneys, no days off tourneys, time-limited Olympics tourneys, head-to-head games, etc. Plus, there’s always the option for them to participate in clubs like the overall competition that have time limits or other quick game clubs.
Anyway, just wanted to let you that not everyone agrees with the proposed solution… would guess most of us don’t even think there’s a problem.
Thanks
Summer break is over, but we still managed to eke out one more weekend of fun! We had friends visiting from Florida this past weekend, and we went to the drive-through safari park and the aquarium. We fed the neighborhood ducks corn kernels. We played games and had lots of laughs and made more great memories. Now we're back to playing our games on GoldToken instead of across the table, but thank goodness we have GoldToken - it's so easy to keep in touch! Also, I seem to have slightly better luck playing Triple Shake here than at the kitchen table. I hope September is a good month for all of you! Let's play!

Up front & personal |
Interview by: laura lee |
**~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~**
We would like to say to Scheherizade for letting us step into their personal life for a bit.
1. What brought you to GoldToken?
Someone we used to work with told my hubby about it, first, for chess purposes, then, hubby told me about it for backgammon purposes. The rest is history.
How'd you choose your name for GT?
The nom de plume comes directly from One Thousand and One Nights (also known as The Arabian Nights), as well as the Rimsky-Korsikov piece. The “I” in my spelling comes directly from a typo on a cd I have of the classical piece, from Time-Life.
2. What interests you most on GT?
The variety of games available is fantastic, and then, the people I play. I’ve met some incredibly fabulous people here. One of those awesome people SandiaStar has the same as me, and, 2 years ago we got to celebrate together in a delightful yet supposedly, haunted B&B in Trinidad, CO. It’s the first time we finally got to meet in person. It was a GREAT weekend. We plan on doing it again, soon!
favorite game here?
I have too many to claim as a "favorite". Love so many of the games here on GT. I play varieties in a myriad of categories, which include: backgammon, dice, word, shakes, poultry, salvos, cards. So, like, aaaaah, most of them?
3. What State or Country do you reside in?
Currently residing in, and loving Colorado.
What in your State or Country do you think tourists should definitely see?
The are so many tourist opportunities from one end of the state, to the other that it's hard to pick a single one. Colorado Springs offers immediate access to Pikes Peak, The Olympic Center, Pikes Peak International Raceway , The Broadmoor, The World Arena, Cave of the Winds, The Manitou Cliff Dwellings, The Manitou Springs Incline, The North Pole, or even the U.S. Air Force Academy . If you feel like driving an hour north, south, or west, you can be in Denver, Pueblo, or Cripple Creek. Water activities are in abundance during the summer. I could be here all day with the winter opportunities. The outdoor, hiking, and biking activities are endless. You could spend a week in Colorado Springs, and STILL have things to do as a tourist.
4. What hobbies do you have?
I write poetry, when the muse moves me. I’d call myself a very amateur photographer. Living in Colorado, nature photography is hard to ignore. I also like to say, “how can you take a bad picture of mountains?” I also enjoy reading. Shameless plug, now. My favorite sci-fi series of all time is Spinward Fringe, by Randolph Lalonde. He is my favorite author, bar none, especially, when it comes to interacting with his fan base. I love this story, and believe in this series so much, I permanently inked myself for it. We are a small, but, extremely rabid fan base. We have big dreams to see this sci-fi space opera up there within the ranks of the Star Trek, Firefly, Battlestar Galactic, Stargate, Star Wars universes. Yes, we small group, dream big.
5. Children? Grandchildren?
Spawning just wasn’t for me. I have nieces and nephews. That’s sufficient breeding within the family lineage, me thinks. My children will always have four legs and fur.
6. Do you work?
Not anymore, due to health issues based on genetic tendencies . Love you Mom and Dad , but, really? Did we have to inherit the biological frailties, too?
what kind of work do/did you do?
I used to work in the information technology industry, in a data center operations atmosphere, monitoring the problems and changes that occurred to the systems and applications. It was a job. Then I got sick. Things happen.
7. Any pets?
See question #5.8. Are you under 30?___ 30 to 50? ___ or over 50?
I’m sorry. Insufficient data. Subject ceased calculating at 39. Unable to access. 404 Not Found.
Male or Female?
I am woman. I am invincible. I AM TIRED.
9. What's the farthest you’ve been from home?
Lived in Germany, twice. First, when I was knee-high to a hickory stump , when my father was in the Army. Second time, was during the ages of 16-20, with my Mom. She worked for the FBI at the time, applied to, and got an opening at the U.S. Embassy in Bonn, Germany. I thank God for having been able to spend my formative years being influenced in a European culture. Not many people are able to say that they graduated high school in Germany. I also attended a semester of college at the University of Maryland, in Munich, Germany. During the Oktoberfest. Need I say more?
10. If you could be anywhere right now where would that be?
Laying on the beach in Hawaii
11. Favorite season?
Spring12. Favorite movie?
All About EveActor?
Tom HanksActress?
Betty DavisSong?
Baby, Come Home, Led Zeppelin Bouree, Jon Lord Ka’ena, The Brothers Cazimero Charmaine, Bill Hailey and the Comets Piano Concerto No. 21, Mozart
If there are any questions you would like to see asked in future interviews, please let us know.

- 2012 winner - PattyMac, owner of The Prime Time TV Club
We have a winner for the Best Nugget contest! FixitDave submitted this one for the new "All Aboard" game:
Game basics
The idea of the game is to create a none stop run of carriages between your station cards.
It doesn't matter which path you take as long as the station names on the cards have a joining carriage.
It's simple enough with one card, but with multiple cards you should try and use the least amount of carriages to join all the station.
When drawing your station cards look at where the stations are on the map, if one card is not easy to link up with other cards, discard it...you can draw more later.
Once you have your first set of station cards, it's time to collect carriages.
You can select any two carriage cards that are face up or down cards.
or
You can pick up one engine face up card
To start creating your run, simply click on the track you want to take.
If you have enough carriage cards of the matching colour, the track is yours.
With grey tracks, you can use any colour carriage cards.
What are the engine cards for...these are wild cards and can be used if you don't have enough carriage cards to claim a track.
In 2 player games, once somebody claims a track, nobody else can use it.
In 3 or more player games, tracks with two coloured runs can be used.
