Ladders can be either site ladders or club ladders.
To join a site ladder, find the link "See Ladders" in your Options box. From the list of ladders available, just click on the little box to join that ladder. You will now be competing against every site member who has joined that ladder.
To join a club ladder you must first join the club. Usually the club owner will have to approve your membership, but the club owners are fabulous so that usually doesn't take more than a day. Once you have joined the club, it will appear on your gamesheet under My Clubs. Joining a ladder is now a case of clicking on the club name in My Clubs, finding the Club Ladder you are interested in, and joining it by clicking on the box.
Times continue to be difficult for everyone, especially with the recession taking so long to recover around the world. Here on GoldToken, we are working at creative ways for players having a difficult time to win an advanced site membership. As such, we have added a number of contests to our monthly newletter that give the winner a prize of Golderos or extended membership. I hope you enjoy them. Better yet, enter them!
As the years quickly pass, there is always so much activity and personal business to attend to that it is easy to forget to thank our valued members, like you, for your continued support of GoldToken throughout the years. Without your kindness and generosity, we would not be able to offer as many important services as we do. Your memberships help pay for others to play who couldn't otherwise afford to do so, cover GoldToken's server access and bandwidth, new games, site features and incredible fun for the whole family. We couldn't do it without you!
Have a wonderful month and play like you mean it!

Site tips and helpful tools |
What's a Nugget?
Nuggets, GoldToken's site articles, give all players an opportunity to write various tutorials, strategy guides, and other materials related to playing each of our many games. Once approved, the new article will be added to the appropriate category for all the players to see. (Please note GoldToken's Nugget Terms of Use below.)
To write and submit a Nugget, click the Nuggets link at the top of your game sheet.
Specific Game type and site related General categories are available. Since this is a new feature, we may not have all the needed categories available as yet. If you wish to post a Nugget in a general category that is not yet available, please contact GoldToken Support to request the addition of the category you require.
Guest and Wood level players can submit one article per month. Players with a Silver membership or higher can submit as many articles as they want.
Additionally, we are also working on a way for highly successful Guest article writers to obtain site membership as a reward - the details of this will be posted at a later time.
When submitting articles, please be sure to only submit content that you have written yourself, or that you have a permission from its author to post here. Citations and links are obviously fine, as long as they do not lead to inappropriate content.
- Search for specific Nuggets via author, category, title/text by clicking the search for Nuggets link at the top of the Nuggets page.
- Sort Nuggets in each specific category by clicking on the desired header at the top of the page once in the specific category.
We hope you enjoy this lovely new feature brought to GoldToken to the creative genius of Mecir.
Write A Nugget & Win!
Write a knock-out Nugget and reap the rewards! If your Nugget is chosen as the winner for GoldToken's Game of the Month in GoldToken's Monthly Newsletter, you will win:
- Silver, Gold, and Platinum Members: a one month extension to your current membership
- Wood Members: a free membership upgrade
- Guests: a free two-month Silver Membership
Game Of The Month |
April's game of the month is Chinese Checkers! Join us in a fun Double Elimination Tournament by signing up today for The April 2012 - Game of the Month - Chinese Checkers Tournament!
If you are not in the mood for the deep thinking required of other games, Chinese Checkers may be the game for you. This is a board game originally derived from Halma, in which you attempt to move all your marbles into your opponent's area before they can move into yours, can be played with up to six players and learned in a minimum amount of time, making it a great game for all ages.
Play is simple. Move your marbles one space at a time in any of the six available directions. Jump your own or your opponents marbles if there is a space open after that marble and within the same line. You can also jump multiple times if there is sufficient space available between the marbles (like a double jump in checkers), even changing directions between jumps, for as many jumps as possible and desired. Get all of your marbles into your opponent's triangle area first, and you win the game.
Choose your first move carefully. Just as in other strategic games, your opening moves are a very important part of winning the game. A good start can make the difference between quickly advancing your marbles across the board or struggling in your own corner. Make your initial moves to allow freedom of movement for the remainder of the marbles that are lined up behind it.
Chinese Checkers is all about the number of moves it takes to place all your marbles in your opponents triangle. You will likely want to keep your pieces near the center of the board to cut down on the number of moves you need to win. Allowing one or two marbles to stray to the side provides a chance they will become stranded. If this happens, you will end up wasting extra moves getting your pieces to their goal. Be sure to keep an eye on your marble that is furthest from the goal too. You never want to let this piece get too far behind. Otherwise, just like your marbles that strayed to the side, you may waste time and moves getting that lagging marble to the goal.
The one thing you need to keep mind with Chinese Checkers is to always plan ahead. An experienced player will always be looking for future multiple jump opportunities. Those are key to winning this game. If you see your opponent moving in a certain direction, you should plan ways to take advantage of it. Get a multiple jump here or there and you will soon find you're way ahead of the game. Also, while your goal is to get your marbles as far as possible, it is not always a good idea if you can block your opponent's jumps long enough to advance yourself further. Always plan ahead, looking for ways to take advantage of your opponent and that's going to make you a better Chinese Checker player.
It may help to know that on GoldToken, if a player is prevented from moving his marble into a hole in the destination triangle because of the presence of an opposing marble in that hole, the player is entitled to swap the opposing piece with that of his own as long as it's a legal move as noted above. Knowing the opposing marble will land on the last hole your piece jumped from creates all sorts of strategical possibilities! Jumping on your opponent from the innermost corner after placing your other marbles around it, prevents them from easily getting out, for example.
And last but not least, remember to The crucial rule to playing any game!
We hope you enjoy it!
Guess what! Nobody won this month! Badger wrote this NUGGET because no one submitted any new Nuggets this last month. So nobody won the extra membership! Don't let this happen again. You can write a knock-out Nugget and reap the rewards!
Special Feature |
The roles of a club officers |
Just a small amount describing some of the types of officers and what they do to keep various clubs running. it is not all officers do but a fair amount of the unseen types of jobs that they do.
1st the different types of officers.
1. Club Owner main officer.
2. President.
3. Vice President.
4. Welcomer. (usually a vice President)
5. Board Officer.
6. Games officers.
Owners.
Are usually the one who set up the club or took over from the original owners.
They tend to over see the running of the club some do a multiple of jobs in their club.
Presidents.
They do various jobs in a club like keeping the clubs tourneys up to date wiki work, entering results, game numbers and starting new tourneys when the entry is full. They also send messages to members about club tourneys needing players to get them started. Try to settle any problems that may happen in the club. Some set up various Chat boards were members can talk about interests that they have. Also ask about members not been on for a while.
Vice Presidents.
They tend to do a good few of the jobs that presidents do but don't have to do as much though some do a lot of the keeping tourneys up to date. Doing Club v Club events.
Welcomers.
Very important part of club life, new members need to be welcomed by the club officers, some clubs use the Vice Presidents to do this important job. The (sallyp and Friends club) my main club we tend to have a two tier way of welcoming our new members. We have our games officer set up a small match Officers against the Newbie usually 4 officers, they send the newbie the invites. also a small 8 player Knock-out (one game elimination) tourney we ask the newbie what their favourite game and do both the match and the Knock-out in that new players game. Our 2nd way is the club owner posts a welcome message on one of the clubs boards including the link to the newbie Knock-out.
Board officers.
Can be any of the clubs officers they have control of some of the clubs boards. they may do various things on the boards. Highlight something special like birthdays, anniversaries, births
and other announcements. In my club there is a request board were members can request a game variant that the club has not had a tourney in for a while or discuss different types of tourneys not been done for a long time. Other boards officers can monitor the boards to keep them respectable. We have an `Ask cekj ` board were members can ask questions to the clubs officers about tourneys how they run and for help with editing wikis, copying and pasting. sometimes the board features some of the prominent members of the club being asked about themselves so club members can get to know a little about the clubs officers.
Games Officers.
These officers are very important to the club they do some of the unseen work that members do not usually know about. My main club I along with another couple of officers set up tourneys. Some officers belong to a number of clubs also as officers so they may be doing the same work in those clubs as well. This usually involves a lot of wiki work and can take a very long time. Coming up with a tourney sometimes it is not so easy, you need a title, gets a bit tedious if you call the tourneys Backgammon, Backgammon 2 , Backgammon 3 and so on. You can call the various tourneys using the month name ie. March Backgammon or Winter Backgammon or something like Halloween Backgammon. The types of tourneys can differ too. Setting the amount of players in each tourney is important too, if you ask for to many players they never fill so don`t start. Setting the tourney up is usually hard work but keeping those tourneys running is also something to keep officers busy as well.
A list of a few different tourneys we run in my club
1) Knock-out single elimination games.
2) Round Robins ( I call these All Play Alls )
3) Swiss Pairings.
4) Race Type Tourneys.
5) Team Tourneys ( in the club )
6) Pairs Tourneys.
7) Special Day Tourneys. ie members birthdays using that members favourite game.
8) Themed series tourneys. a set of tourneys that form a theme with a leader board.
There is also many other types of tourneys.
As a footnote why do officers do this for members of clubs? If I take my own self I love the
thought that members enjoy the competitions that are set up by officers. I also like to play in these competitions that I and others have set up.

Interview by: laura lee |
**~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~**
We would like to say to Fliss for letting us step into their personal life for a bit.
1. What brought you to GoldToken?
A friend of mine introduced me, we commute to London on the same train. He plays as jodrell on GT.
How'd you choose your name for GT?
Fliss is my nickname, plain and simple
2. What interests you most on GT?
Tough call - I would say backgammon, cribbage and the domination variants. I don't get much chance to play board games at the moment.
3. Do you belong to any of the clubs? How about the chat only clubs (birds, kitties, garden)?
I've joined a few - The Wolf Pack Club was my first - they gave me my current icon, even though I was on a trial membership at the time. I'm most active for games in the The Sallyp and Friends Club , and I joined the specialist clubs for the three games I like best. The Gammon Addicts Club
4. What State or Country do you reside in?
I live in the UK, and am a British citizen.
What in your State or Country do you think tourists should definitely see?
Landmarks are probably well known and overcrowded. I'd say national parks are some of the best - Mount Snowdon in north Wales is one of my favourite mountains. Try the Watkin Path
5. What hobbies to you have?
I love cycling and hill walking, cinema and reading.
What other interest do you have?
I collect books illustrated by Arthur Rackham and Edmund Dulac - especially fairytale collections and editions of the Rubaiyat of Omar Khayaam.
6. Children?
I have one child - daughter Ursula.
Do any of them play on GT?
She's nearly 16 weeks old, so not on GT yet
7. Do you work?
Do you enjoy your job?
Yes, though right now I'm on maternity leave. I do fairly standard IT portfolio work, but it's rewarding enough when it goes well
8. Any pets?
A cat, Zen. she's a black tortoise-shell. She's very chatty, and loves jumping into the bath when it gets cool enough.
9. Are you under 30?___ 30 to 50? ___ or over 50?
I'm 32
10. What's the farthest you've been from home?
Was it a vacation or for business?
I've been to the other side of the world! Half of my family lives in Australia, so whenever I can afford it I go over to see them all.
11. If you could be anywhere right now where would that be?
Back on honeymoon in the Maldives with my husband, getting ready for a night dive
If there are any questions you would like to see asked in future interviews, please let us know.

LadyeFantasy
Ladders and Tournies have my game count over four times my "norm" so I'm a bit busy at the moment. Unlike many players here, this is the only site I play on. It has been that way since I first discovered this site in 2008. I love GoldToken !!! The ever-growing selection of games and people I meet keep me here, and I have no interest in looking 'elsewhere'.
I discovered this site by way of typing in free online Reversi. Originally, I only used my computer for offline use and was on WebTV, GoldToken was a site that 'worked' with my Webby and so I decided to give it and Pocket M a try, then I discovered GT had Grabble which is one of my favorite games and that was all it took for me !!! This became "my" game site. Now I have some very dear friends here, and cannot even imagine them no longer being in my life.
This is also where I met my best friend, my fiance' WONRHAF. I am a OOAK Fantasy Porcelain artist focusing primarily on Faeries, Angels, and 'theme-based' Santas & Father Christmas'. WONRHAF had seen one of my Dallas Cowboy pieces and mentioned it. Then said he'd like to have a Green Bay Packer Santa. I didn't take him serious at first and he had to ask me three times before I realized he was serious. Later, he decided he wanted an Olde World Santa instead because "I can tell now that the quality of your work is better than I first thought." The change created a need to switch from a couple of games and PM's to phone conversations. That began our friendship which ever so slowly evolved into more. He is now my fiance' and he moved here to Oklahoma from Milwaukee (has never lived anywhere else in his life), left all he had ever known, his family and life-long friends for me. How could I not feel very loved as well as cherished ??? He is my very best friend and all due to GoldToken for bringing him into my life !!!
